Hi,
Does anyone know how to fix this problem? I can't delete messages from my inbox, or, for that matter, from any of my folders in outlook express. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Jen

Outlook Express is no longer doing well. It is being fazed out. Read the other topic on this.

I'm using it just fine.
Are you using pop3 or imap? If using imap, after pressing delete on the messages you want to delete, go to edit menu and find where it says perge messages. That may be your problem.

Ok. I got the same problem while I was with vista. it used to say "the message cannot be deleted".

I've followed these instructions and got success.

First, move any messages you want to keep, out of the Inbox folder to another folder of your own creation in Outlook Express.
Close Outlook Express.

Show Hidden files and folders:
Windows XP:
Open My Computer,
Tools > Folder Options > View tab,
under Hidden Files and Folders, verify Show Hidden Files and Folders is selected.
Remove the checkmark for Hide Extensions for known file types.

Search:
Start > Search > For Files or Folders > All files and folders,
In the field for: all or part of the file name
Key in:
.dbx
Below that, click on More advanced options
in the field: Type of File, select (All Files and Folders)
place a checkmark in:
Search system folders
Search hidden files and folders
Search subfolders
click Search

Locate the Inbox.dbx file and rename it Inbox.old

Restart Outlook Express, a new Inbox folder will be created and the stubborn message should be gone.

Let me know if that works for you.
